Development of anti-CAF drugs
A cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) is a type of cell within the tumor microenvironment, and it promotes tumorigenic features by initiating the remodeling of extracellular matrix or by secreting cytokines. The functions of CAFs (cancer associated fibroblasts) are known to stimulate angiogenesis to support the formation of tumors, helping to proliferate cancer cells and metastasis. Cancer cells are usually drug resistant, which is contributed by CAFs. Therefore, this interaction is being studied for potential anti-cancer therapy. Our primary goal is to develop anti-CAF drugs that interfere with the interaction to make cancer vulnerable to cancer therapy.
